Live Bait Trips

shiner fishing on Lake Okeechobee Florida with Capt Ron Stevens Guide ServiceA lot of my customers love to fish with live bait for bass. It's a very relaxing and very productive method of catching the "big ones" on Lake Okeechobee.

The primary bait we use are wild native shiners. These are sometimes called golden shiners due to their color. They are caught in the lake, or nearby lakes by shiner fishermen throwing cast nets. They are then kept alive and "cured" for a few days with salt or a cure, that makes them a little tougher when being used for bait.

We use a couple of different methods for shiner fishing, the main one is to anchor on a place where we know there are fish, usually a bulrush, or cattail patch or "head". We then cast a rig with a sinker right up close, to entice the bass and get them to bite.

Ron will be happy to assist you in obtaining lodging or making other arrangements in  setting up your trip.
