Late June 2011
The lake is getting lower each day, but the fishing continues to be as good as ever. You just cant go to all the places you would like to go. The level this morning is at 9.55 and falling about 3 hundredths a day. We have had a little rain the past couple of days, but it is so dry, that it really doesn't make much of a difference. The lake temperature yesterday was at 86 degrees.
We have been fishing the main channel out of Clewiston, the rim canal, and the deeper dynamite holes. Pretty much the same as it was a few years back when we had the low water. Not much has changed as far as what we are using either, watermelon worms, shaky head jigs with trick worms, top water baits early, and live shiners as well.
It has been very hot. mid to upper 90s, yesterday it was 99 at my house in the shade. So my trips have been getting out as early as we can, and quitting about mid day, and the fishing has been exceptional.
We do need some rain however, in the form of a tropical storm or two, not a lot of wind, just a lot of rain. The last time the lake was this low, the fishing only got better when the water came back up, just "mother nature" taking care of things. Don't be afraid to come down fishing, just go with someone that knows the lake.
