Early April 2011
Sorry it took so long to update this report, but the fishing has been fantastic, as well as my business, and I just didn't have the time to sit down and send out a report.
Anyway, the fishing has been just incredible. The fish are there and are willing to bite. They are biting live bait, artificial baits, in just about any location you would like to fish.
I have been doing my artificial bait fishing to the north, Cochran's pass and south from there, the "shoal, Turners cove, the Uncle Joes area. Skinny Dippers, the Balon "shaky shad", flukes, worms, swim jigs, just about anything you like to throw is working, and for me, any color will work, as long as it's watermelon.
For my live bait fishing, I have been going to the south, there seems to be easier areas to fish when using the live shiners, they need to have room to swim.
There are some areas up north, around Turners cove that have been holding some shiner fish also, a lot depends on the wind and the direction of it.
The lake level is at 11.55 this morning, and the water temperature is in the high 70's depending on the wind and the time of the day. A lot of care has to be taken when getting around the lake, and getting into the places you want to fish, stop way out and idle in, it's much better to be safe than to damage something.
Right now, Lake Okeechobee is the hottest lake in the country, and I have heard this from a lot of folks I know that fish all over. It has always been good, but this season has been the best in years. It's a great time to get down and fish if you can make the time.
