Early to Mid January 2011

The lake is at 12.48 this morning, and the temperature is in the low to mid 60's depending on the wind and where you are. The fishing continues to be as good as ever for this time of the year, and the bass are on the beds. They will continue to spawn from now until mid April, in waves that move in and out. This past weekends Everstart tournament had some huge bags brought in, even with the stormy weather and cold fronts we had. On the first day, it took over 32 pounds to take the lead, and if you had a 20 pound bag, you didn't make it in to the top 20, now that's some great fishing.

Damaged prop from low water conditions in some areas of Lake OkeechobeeWith the low water, and the lake is dropping everyday, more and more care has to be taken wherever you go, and don't get in a hurry (see the attached picture to see what the rocks will do) Be very sure when you take off that you are far enough out, and in deep enough water to safely get up, and not just in a deeper pocket of water.

There are still fish on the east wall, but watch the rocks, and all along the edges and bedding places all the way to "bay bottom". Worms, "skinny dippers", top water, and shallow diving crank baits have been working well. Out off the eel grass edges on the shoal, another place to be very careful, rattle traps will get you bit a lot. There was a lot of boats fishing up there, but everyone was catching fish.

This is a great time to fish, come on down and get out of the cold.
